Excellent finish to the season

All comes together in the end
In a great finish to the season, Whitchurch dispatched a good Wolverhampton side who had travelled north for the final match. The game kicked off in very hard and dry conditions and Wolverhampton receiving possession from the outset. The team attacked aggressively with some strong runners, however Whitchurch held out and eventually turned over possession before counter attacking. The counter led to a good try from Ed P, who managed to find the outside of the defence, although very much against the run of play.
Knowing that possession would help them win the game and make Wolves defend on the hard ground, Whitchurch played some great running rugby that saw them score some excellent tries and build a comfortable lead. By half time Whitchurch lead by by 4 tries to nil. Ed A. capitalised on the tries with some spectacular touchline goal kicking that resembled another second row - John Eales of Australia!
The second half kicked off with the Whitchurch forwards dominating possession and allowing their backs to run the game. Tom at scrum half was excellent, bossing backs and forwards and also encouraging team mates who tackled and snuffed out any Wolverhampton attacks. Tries from Brook after a pick up from the back of the ruck and a drive over the line, Adam out on the wing after a long pass from Jake and Rees and Issac also crossing the line (with a particularly good running line taken by Issac!).
Most encouragingly was how the team held out against a penalty 5m from the line to snaffle any Wolverhampton attacks. As tiredness set in Wolves came back late in the day to score a couple of tries but by that stage the game was over. It was also great to see such a strong squad out for the final game - playing all 24 who turned up. Special mention to Phil who came on in the back row and bravely held on in the tackle against a couple of boys who were considerably bigger than him!
A fantastic way to end the season and considering the team only scrapped a win against Wolves the last time they played, shows how far they have come. The best thing about the team is the way they play together and let's hope this continues for seasons to come.
